Self Watering Planters with Water Level Indicator

Most moisture meters read the soil, and soil is a poor thing to measure. It dries unevenly, it reads differently depending on how firmly it was packed, and by the time the top has dried out the roots below may have been sitting wet for days.

The indicator in a Thirsty Pot measures the water in the reservoir instead. That is a single, unambiguous quantity: either there is water left to wick up or there is not. When it runs low, a sensor in the base casts a red light onto the floor beside the pot. It is deliberately visible from across the room rather than being a small dial you have to crouch down and read.

Filling is done through a sliding cover on the rim. One long red flash tells you the tank has reached capacity, or you can lift the inner pot out and pour to the marked fill line. A full reservoir lasts a different length of time for every plant, because the plant sets the pace, which is rather the point. Our plant guide covers which species drink hardest.
