A cotton wick runs from the reservoir up into the soil. Water travels along the wick and your plant draws what it needs, when it needs it. There is no pump and no power involved, so nothing can fail mid-holiday.

Depending on the plant, its size and your home, the reservoir can keep water available for several weeks. Thirstier, faster growing plants need refilling sooner. The red light tells you when, so you never have to guess.

The plant sets the pace, not you. As long as you fill the reservoir rather than pouring over the soil, the wick delivers a steady amount instead of a flood.

No. The wick that comes fitted in your pot is the one it uses. If something is wrong with it inside the warranty period, contact us and we will sort it out.

You do not need to. Fill the reservoir through the port and let the wick do the rest. Some people mist foliage, which is a plant preference rather than a watering need.

It means the reservoir is running low and wants a refill. The sensor shines the light down onto your floor, so you notice it from across the room rather than having to inspect the pot.

No. It reads the water level in the reservoir, not soil moisture. So the alert means refill the reservoir, never pour water over the plant.

Two ways. One long red flash the moment it reaches capacity, or lift the inner pot out and pour to the marked fill line inside. You can also top up early, which is what we do before travelling.

Two AA batteries, not included, which last roughly 6 to 12 months. They run the alert only, never the watering.

Watering is passive, so the wick keeps working without power. You just lose the red alert until you swap the batteries.

About ten minutes and no tools. Thread the wick, fit the base, drop in two AA batteries, pot your plant and fill the reservoir.

Slide the fill port cover open and pour. The cover is moulded from the same ABS as the pot, so there is no separate part to lose.

Yes. The inner pot lifts straight out, so repotting into a larger Thirsty Pot takes a minute. The wick threads the same way in all three.

Lift the inner pot out and rinse the reservoir with warm water. No pump and no tubing means nothing else to service.

Plants that like consistent moisture: peace lily, fittonia, calathea, many ferns, most philodendrons. Use caution with succulents, cacti, snake and ZZ plants, which prefer to dry out substantially between waterings.

Match your nursery pot to the planter width: the Egg is 23 cm (9 in) wide, the Hexagon 28 cm (11 in), the Classic 33 cm (13 in). When in doubt, size up. More root space means longer between refills.

Only size and base. The Egg has an iron stand, the Hexagon and Classic have bamboo legs. Root space runs 1.5 L (1.6 qt), 2.8 L (3.0 qt) and 6.5 L (6.9 qt), reservoirs 2.0 L (2.1 qt), 3.0 L (3.2 qt) and 3.5 L (3.7 qt). Everything below the soil is identical.

Yes. Each stands on its own base, and the Egg sits highest, which is useful when you group them together.

Yes, a standard indoor potting mix works well. Avoid anything that compacts heavily, since the wick needs contact with soil that can hold moisture.
