Six pairings we would happily put in our own homes. Each one is matched to the pot that gives its roots the right amount of room.
Loves consistent moisture and droops loudly when it is thirsty. With a full reservoir it simply stops complaining, which makes it the easiest first pairing we can recommend.
Thirsty, fast growing and unforgiving of a dry week. The largest reservoir we make keeps its fronds green instead of crisp.
Wants damp soil at all times and faints dramatically when it does not get it. A wick gives it exactly that, and it stays small enough for a tight corner.
Curls its leaves the moment the soil dries and browns at the edges if you let it happen twice. Steady wick moisture removes the one variable it cannot tolerate.
The plant most people give up on, because a single dry day costs you a whole frond. Constant moisture and no soggy roots is exactly what a wick delivers.
Grows fast and drinks accordingly, then keeps going. The largest root space we make gives it somewhere to spread before it needs repotting again.
Snake plants, ZZ plants, succulents and cacti are built for drought and prefer to dry out substantially between drinks. They look lovely in the pot, but we would leave the reservoir empty most of the year.
